The 10 Best Family Cell Phone Plans of 2020

Visible – Most Affordable Family Plan

visible logo

Visible is an MVNO backed by Verizon Wireless. This means subscribers should experience the same great coverage as those received by Verizon’s direct subscribers for about half the price. Visible, which launched in 2018, offered only one plan. For $40 per month, you get unlimited LTE smartphone data without a speed cap.

Visible Wireless calls its family plan Party Pay. Using Party Play, you can add up to three additional people to your Unlimited plan. Just make sure everyone has a compatible phone. Each additional line you add cuts the cost of all lines by $5. If you add two lines, each line will cost just $35 instead of $40, and when you add three lines, each will be just $30.

The maximum discount available through this plan is $15 per line. This occurs when you add four lines to the same plan, which drops the cost down to $25 each. That means a family of four pays $100 a month for four lines of unlimited data.

One of the best things about the new Party Pay plan is that each person is responsible for their share of the bill. This eliminates the need for a single person to manage the plan.

You can bring an existing phone to Visible or purchase a new one through the company. but first, you’ll want to check the Bring Your Own Phone Page to see if you can enroll your current phone in the Visible network. (click here to check if your phone is compatible).

  • First Line: $40/month ($25 First month)
  • Two Lines: $70/month – ($35 per line)
  • Three Lines: $90/month – ($30 per line)
  • Four Lines: $100/month – ($25 per line)

Google Fi – Best for Heavy Data Users

google fi logo

Google Fi is an MVNO (mobile network virtual operator), meaning that it uses other networks to deliver service. In Fi’s case, those networks are T-Mobile, Sprint, and regional carrier U.S. Cellular. By consolidating all three, Google provides better coverage than any of them individually.

Google Fi offers an Unlimited plan and a Flexible plan. Both plans come with unlimited calling and texting to numbers in the United States. Both plans also keep data prices and amounts when roaming internationally. You can save money by bringing additional lines, with the cost per line coming down per line with up to four lines.

The monthly cost of the Unlimited plan is $45 per line for 4 to 6 lines, $50 per line for 3 lines, $60 per line for 2 lines, and $70 for a single line. That’s pricey, but the upside is that there are no contracts or activation fees.

Keep in mind that “unlimited data” is high-speed up to 22GB, but slows down beyond that point. On the flexible plan, data is capped at $10 per gigabyte, but anything over 6GB is free. That means that no more than $60 will ever be added to your bill.

The Fi Flexible plan offers a Bill Protection feature which makes the service operate more like an unlimited plan, even though you are paying for data. The Bill Protection means you won’t pay for any data used after you hit 6GB.

Google Fi also offers parents the option of managing their kids’ data usage, and with the Family Link app, you can manage the content that your children are seeing. You can also limit screen time, or lock your children’s phones when it’s bedtime, homework time, or mealtime. Parents can also set filters in Chrome, search, and other Google services.

  1. $30 dollars, PERIOD. It is cheap and great, at least they don’t charge you for minutes and that is great! For years my family has Metro PCS and it’s good. You do have data but if you keep using the internet data, the data will drop and the internet goes slow, but that doesn’t stop you from using the internet on your phone. I like Metro PCS and it rocks!

  2. AT&T is awesome at first I had Verizon but then I did not have the best experience. It has slow data and it REALLY charges you. But with AT&T I bought the iPhone 6s just recently and it’s great. It has really fast 4G LTE speeds and when you run out of data then it is really cheap to buy another’s gigabyte. I love AT&T it is awesome I think this is the #1 network. I would rate this 20 stars if I could!

  3. I love my at&t service, I can get service where most people can’t … I have fewer dropped calls. and it is fairly cheap with a family of four.

  4. My family (me too) have been for sprint since my dad started working there and that’s 13 years ago we rarely get any dropped call plus in some place when we were on a family trip to Las Vegas my uncle had to use my phone and he had Verizon

  5. Best price for the way my husband and I use our phones. We actually use them as phones and not as minicomputers. Family Mobile is through Walmart.

  6. In our family, We pay $50 for the first line $30 for the second line and $10 each for the subsequent four lines.
That’s $120 a month for six lines, includes unlimited talk, text, and the Internet. works perfectly.

  7. T-Mobile’s family plan is allowing my family and relatives to have 9 lines and still only cost around $180 combined lol. We get unlimited texting/talk + 2.5 GB of 4G LTE data for each line. Other fools are paying more than half the amount for 1 line.
